ABOUT PASIÓN

Biography: Quote

Pasión is a professional chorus founded by McAllen native Dr. Eric Posada that unites singers from the Rio Grande Valley with those from across Texas and the United States. These choristers represent music-making and friendships from different stages of Posada’s life and career. The bond shared between the singers and Dr. Posada is palpable, special, spiritual, and emotionally charged.

On June 22, 2017 Pasión presented its historic concert “Noche de Lluvia” in McAllen, TX. The concert weekend was received by three thunderous standing ovations and a tangible outpouring of love, support, and anticipation from the community. Additionally, the choir gave the Concert World Premiere of and recorded renowned American composer Michael John Trotta’s A Light Shines in the Darkness. The album was released in 2018 and soared to #11 on the classical music charts. This multifaceted performance also featured members of the Valley Symphony Orchestra and professional classically trained dancers.

“Sing We All Noel” was presented on December 22, 2017 in McAllen. This was the ensemble’s first Christmas concert. Prior to the concert evening, the choir appeared on Telemundo’s Primer Impacto with Mayra Galvan. The spectacle included a joyful communal sing-along of the most popular Christmas hymns.

A patriotic celebration was next on Pasión’s list. This time the professional chorus extended its reach across the RGV as they performed “I Hear America Singing” in McAllen and Brownsville on July 2 & 3, 2018, respectively. The concert concluded with the profound, heartfelt “A Tribute to the Armed Services” in which veterans stood and were honored during their respective branch’s theme song.

Acceptance, welcoming, inclusion, kindness, grace, and love was the message Dr. Posada envisioned for “True Colors”. The performance occurred on June 15, 2019 and was the ensemble’s final performance prior to the pandemic. The Colibrí Children’s Choir joined Pasión for this special event. The combined choirs closed the evening with “Seasons of Love” from Rent.

In the midst of the COVID-19 global pandemic, Pasión virtually recorded composer Kim André Arnesen’s “Even When He is Silent”. On May 8, 2020 the hopeful, yet heart-wrenching piece was dedicated to all effected by the health crises and In Memoriam of baby Landon Ochoa.

Pasión received incredible news in 2021! Through refereed audition the professional chorus was selected as Performing Choir for the 66th Annual Texas Choral Directors Association conference held July 22-24 in San Antonio, TX. Finally, the ensemble won third place for The American Prize in two categories: Choral Performance and the Performance of American Music.

Pasión has been invited to perform at Cadogan Hall, London during the summer of 2024.
