Mission

Pasión is a professional chorus founded in 2016 by McAllen native Dr. Eric Posada that unites singers from the Rio Grande Valley with those across Texas and the United States. Their mission is to serve the South Texas border communities in Cameron, Willacy, Hidalgo, Starr and surrounding counties by providing high quality artistic choral concerts to underserved populations. Through exceptional, educational, and inclusive performances of repertoire indicative of different genres, countries, styles, languages, and underrepresented voices, Pasión seeks to educate the community, as well as ignite, inspire, and foster a love of choral music.

Artistic

In 2021, the Rio Grande Valley’s professional chorus received national commendation by winning third place in The American Prize for two categories: Choral Performance and the Performance of American Music. Moreover, the choir was selected through refereed audition as Performing Choir for the 66th Annual Texas Choral Directors Association Conference held at the Lila Cockrell Theatre in San Antonio. Pasión has presented six concerts across the Valley: Noche De Lluvia, Sing We Noel, I Hear America Singing, True Colors, and the Mozart Requiem. In the midst of the COVID-19 global pandemic, Pasión virtually recorded composer Kim André Arnesen’s “Even When He is Silent''. The hopeful, yet heart-wrenching piece was dedicated to all affected by the health crises and In Memoriam of baby Landon Ochoa. Finally, the choir presented the Concert World Premiere of and recorded Michael John Trotta’s Light Shines in the Darkness. The album was released on iTunes and reached #17 on the Classical Music Charts.

Philanthropy

While the chorus has received national artistic acclaim, it has also given back to the communities of South Texas. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Pasión has proudly teamed-up with Mujeres Unidas, Bebo’s Angels, and RGV Music Therapy to champion noteworthy causes in the Rio Grande Valley, as well as provide healing through music as evidenced by the Candlelight Vigil for Uvalde and Mozart Requiem.
